如果你申请的是牛津\剑桥大学，流程大概是这样：
1. 定位想要申请的专业
2. 找到这个专业哪些学院接受申请
3. 申请的时候填上自己偏好的学院
4. 收到系里的offer
5. 收到学院的offer（并不一定是你申请时填写的那个你偏好的学院）
你所选择的学院，决定这你接下来的时间里，生活学习都是在这个学院提供的范围里，所以谨慎仔细一点并不亏。
不同学院存在的一些区别：
1. 是否只招收本科生，或者硕士生
2. 住宿的房型各式各款，有新有旧
3. 学院大小规模不一，师资力量也不尽相同
4. 学院的历史以及建筑设施，也就是教学楼有几栋
5. 地理位置，有的靠近市中心，有的靠近你所在的系，有的可能遗世而独立的存在着
6. 招生人数不同
7. 奖学金助学经学院经费，每个学院手头的宽裕程度都不相同
8. 设施设备不容，其中一定会有优劣之分，体验好坏之别

“As the oldest university in the English-speaking world, Oxford is a unique and historic institution. There is no clear date of foundation, but teaching existed at Oxford in some form in 1096 and developed rapidly from 1167, when Henry II banned English students from attending the University of Paris.”

In 1209, scholars taking refuge from hostile townsmen in Oxford migrated to Cambridge and settled there. At first they lived in lodgings in the town, but in time houses were hired as hostels with a Master in charge of the students. By 1226 the scholars were numerous enough to have set up an organisation, represented by an official called a Chancellor, and seem to have arranged regular courses of study, taught by their own members.
