The tall building I'd like to talk about is the Saint Isaac's Cathedral located in St'
Petersburg.
I went to Russia last month withmy wife. There we saw numerous architectures among which the St.
Issac'sCathedral is one of the tallest architectures we actually visited. It is astall as 40 meters so
that it can be seen from a rather distant spot. By theway, 40 meters may not be a great height today, but
back when it wasconstructed, it deserved to be called a skyscraper.
The first impression that I had about this building was that it israther historical, with its dark walls,
faded paints, wooden doors, and rustedstaircases. In stark contract with its old walls, the building has a
shininggolden onion dome, a dominant feature of Byzantine constructions. At each ofthe four corners of the
building, you may find the statue of an angel. At thetop of the building, there is a colonnade that is
accessible at the cost ofonly 200 rubles, where you could enjoy the panoramic view of the city. Mywife and
I decided to appreciate the sunset of the city from the top of it, butwhat we did not expect was that up
in the colonnade, the wind was so strong and cold that we must hug each other to stay warm. We
waited for around 1hour but could not stand the cold anymore, so we left the building reluctantly.
